In fact, the gains of the Arab Republic of Egypt, if it opened the Rafah crossing, would be many and volumes could be written about them, but we will summarize a few of the possibilities below, the first of which would be to stopping the tsunami of losses being incurred by the country due to the position of the Egyptian leadership, and once the bleeding has been stopped, patching can begin and then the gains may be reaped. In the eyes of near and far, Egypt has become a byword with regard to its position on the Gaza Strip and the crossing, starting with the spread of stories of financial gain from the movement of victims through the crossing, and the theft and sale of aid, all the way to the accusations of cooperation and participation with the national enemy in besieging and starving the poor, and these accusations are on every Arab and Western tongue and a source of bewilderment, especially with official revelations at the highest levels in this regard

Officially, it was uttered in the highest international court established by humanity. It was stated  publicly that Egypt and no one else is in control of the crossing and it was Egypt that was preventing the passage of aid accumulated in Egyptian territory and shipped by plane from countries around the world to Al-Arish Airport near the crossing so that it reached the needy quickly. It was claimed at the time that Egypt would respond to the court by saying that it did not prevent…etc. But it is engaged in closure and did not respond to the court at all, and Egypt, great in our view, could have opened the crossing immediately and asked drivers from the Gaza Strip to deliver aid, and then it would be on the head of the enemy if they bombed these trucks. Who allows and who grants is as apparent to the blind as to the sighted

Officially, and from the head of the country that leads the world, the claim was repeated on February 8, 2024: “At first, President Sisi did not want to open the crossing to allow the entry of humanitarian aid. I spoke to him and convinced him to open the crossing. I also spoke to Bibi (Netanyahu) and convinced him to open the Israeli side of the crossing.” The American President made these comments in his speech about the contacts he has been conducting since the beginning of the war with Qatari, Egyptian, and Saudi officials, in order to bring humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, stressing that he is pushing hard to bring aid to the Strip. Of course, the Egyptian presidency responded with a statement glorifying relations with Washington and flirting with their strength, and claiming that it does not withhold aid…etc

It is not only the court or President Biden who talk about the retention and destruction of aid in Egypt, so does everyone who refrains from denunciation; at the very least, they are surprised and seek explanations, to the point that some have speculated that perhaps Egypt is sending supplies through secret tunnels, including weapons, and is pretending to be cruel by not passing aid openly!! No, she does neither one nor the other, but rather is satisfied with being turned into a byword for friend and foe, for those who are of equal standing and those who are not

There is no official enemy presence at the crossing, which is a joint Egyptian-Palestinian corridor, and the Gaza Strip is considered by the Tel Aviv government to be an unoccupied territory. The Strip was under Egyptian administration from the Nakba of 1948 until the war of 1967, which took place with Egyptian participation… The Egyptian-Gazawite-Hamas relationship is good, and Cairo’s position is one of respect towards the great powers, as a result of their influence on the sector and its policy… that is, they have incurred political benefits that are reflected in foreign financial aid to the country. Why, at least, is there no water line from Egypt to the Gaza Strip? Or a gas line or any fuel, or of course electricity? Why are the residents of the Gaza Strip left to suffer being sent back to the Stone Age, while the American financier says that he has been urging the Egyptian president to increase aid and open the crossing for a long time

Let us now move on to the possible benefits for Egypt if it cooperates and responds to Washington, the Court of Justice, and all international calls demanding relief for the residents of the Gaza Strip:  If Egypt stood with the Strip in its plight and set the precedent of operating the crossing directly between the two parties, it would be able to supply the Gaza Strip later with all its requirements from Egyptian production, industry, and import, instead of leaving it to be supplied from Israel that makes huge profits from this trade, including water, electricity, energy, and construction, and all other materials and which is estimated at fifty billion dollars

There are Arab countries that achieve a high income from medical tourism, and there is nothing preventing Egypt from receiving the injured, and sick from the Gaza Strip, who will not be treated for free. Rather, Arab and international countries will pay for them when Egypt opens its hospitals and helps its brothers in Islam, its fellow Arabs and humans, and it can supply Gaza Strip hospitals with Egyptian-made medicines at their expense

Why has the obligatory relationship between Egypt and its neighbour not been transformed by geography and history into a utilitarian relationship that is calculated in dollars, from which Egypt would derive glory and praise for her chivalry as an additional bonus? Why insist on living with humiliation upon humiliation? Here is the fate of the Gaza Strip and Palestine that occupies the popular and official world. So why doesn’t Egypt benefit and move away from the ranks of the evil and the bad, and join the good and useful people in a way that benefits every Egyptian and increases the value of the country

Egyptian politics has created the bogeyman for itself, and is acting on its behalf and fearing it. Thus, for God’s sake… No one is demanding that Cairo abrogate the Camp David Agreement, but rather implement its provisions in what is in Egypt’s interest and in accordance with international law, otherwise it is an unjust agreement! The highest international judicial body ruled to prevent the decimation the Gaza Strip, Egypt’s neighbours… The Genocide Treaty, signed by Egypt, the entity of Israel, and others, recognizes the necessity of the intervention by any signatory party to prevent genocide; What if an international resolution was issued demanding that? Egypt can now do whatever it wants to achieve the goal of preventing genocide, and ask the rest of the countries that signed the agreement to support and participate, without in any way being in violation of the peace treaty

Such action by Egypt will strengthen its weakened position on the Arab, regional, and global levels, and will not plunge it into wars, nor cause it material losses. On the contrary, it will revitalize its economy with honour, and place it in a position that everyone in the region hopes to serve, or at least fears and respects. Every insightful person can see what is happening and connect the events surrounding Egypt’s water and the attempts to starve its people and dry up its crops, and attacking the Egyptian pound to repeat the experience of Lebanon’s bankruptcy and starvation of the people, by the same perpetrator, and what about the plans currently being implemented to dispense with the Suez Canal and deprive the Egyptians of its income? Isn’t the planner, implementer, and overseer the same one who is starving, killing, and displacing the neighbouring Palestinian people

It is certain that policy makers in Egypt present their visions to the Head of the government, and it is impossible for what is happening to be within their recommendations… and until Egypt acts for itself, its interests, its Arabism, and its role; We can only ask for forgiveness and think about the direct cause of the obstruction … and there is no winner but Allah
